Mélanie Baillairgé
Upon completing her studies in graphic design at UQAM, she began her career as an editorial illustrator. Her work has been presented and internationally awarded several times. Melanie is constantly searching for ways to indulge her passion for creating characters. In 2018, she became actively involved in her community by sitting on the Board of the Quebec Illustrators Association.
She published her first children’s book with Éditions de la Pastèque. She also collaborated with the publishing house on two comic strip collectives and published a graphic novel with author Alain Farah. She received two grants from the Canada Council for the Arts for her children’s books, and her latest collection, co-written with director Paul Tom, was nominated for a Governor General’s Award.
Around 2000, Mélanie co-founded the multimedia agency M. Edgar. She collaborated with a team of more than 20 talented individuals on Couche-Tard, Fednav, and Festival Nouveaux Media. She then founded the Madame Edgar Gallery, offering Montrealers an explosive glimpse into the world of artists across the national and international urban scenes.
She then joined teams with Tennis Canada, Sid Lee, Baillat-Cardell & Fils, Circo and Nolin to manage brands such as The Rogers Cup, STM, Hydro-Québec, Carolina Herrera, CPA, Bombardier, Le Lait. Melanie ranked 193rd among the best Art Directors of the year, according to the Canadian magazine STRATEGY. The American Society of Illustrators named her the Best Art Director of the Year. Her work has been recognized by Grafika, Boomerangs, and the Applied Arts Awards.
Melanie’s talents have been put to numerous uses, including character and object design, illustration, animation, and scripting, as well as creating narrative spaces, brand images, campaigns, and signage. Recently, she began exploring other avenues, turning her eye to a form of storytelling guaranteed to bring her talents together in an entirely new format: the performing arts.
At Supply and Demand, it is her versatility that truly makes her stand out.
